Winter photo shoots have their charm. Especially if you are lucky enough and Prague will delight you with snow. And, you know what’s awesome? Snow in Prague is very cinematic. You can see that type of snow in Hollywood Christmas movies. It, as is sung in a famous song, spins and flies, and practically doesn’t land on the ground. And you are roaming around this magical winter fairy tale, drinking hot wine, snacking with trdlo (a Czech sweet bun) and can’t believe that it’s real.
Some lyrics …
I love Prague in winters. And so far, I didn’t decide which one I love more. There are two winters in Prague.
First: gray, mystical, thoughtful and almost deserted. This is November, the end of January and February. When life seems to slow down and the sounds of the city are muffled. Wrapped in warm scarfs, people crawl to work, and rare tourists hang around the empty streets. Cars quietly rumble in traffic and emit clouds of smoke, the famous red trams don’t jingle and the saturation and contrast sliders of the city colors seem to turn off. Goes numb. That is the right word! Prague goes numb.
At this time I take very few pictures and mostly contemplate. I’d love to show you a couple of such photo shoots with a touch of gloom, but they do not fit into the concept of my brightly cheerful blog :)
Another winter Prague is fabulous, shining with bright lights, smelling with Christmas trees and fresh pastries, it’s noisy and merry. It starts in the first days of December and remains until mid-January. The city is shaken up from hibernation, changes its black scarf and gray coat to a red-green outfit and joyfully rings the bells of Christmas decorations. The scope for lovers of bright colors and their creativity is opened now! So it’s time to brush away a light layer of dust from the cameras, dress warmly and jerk to the photo shoots.
The most interesting thing happens in those moments when a light, completely weightless snow covers Prague. Imagine yourself sitting with a cup of hot chocolate in a warm cozy cafe and watching at that magical winter through the huge windows! How do you feel? I hope slaver didn’t flow out too much :)
Some thoughts about the photo shoots in winter.
If we are talking about winter photo shoots, then I would like to pay special attention to the concept of shooting. Winter photo shoots are, first of all, coziness and comfort. Although the comfort of a photo shoot is generally a condition independent of the season. You should always feel comfortable at the photo shoot!
And wedding gowns with all those heels, bare shoulders and thin nylon tights (or even no tights at all) at zero degrees and the concept of comfort are totally incompatible things. The same applies to any other inappropriate season outfits. Well, seriously! You can not have sensual, relaxed and natural photos, if you feel bad at the photo session .
If a photographer sees you sitting hugging and admiring the beautiful view, but in fact the butt is already frozen to the bench, the jaw is cramped and the legs don’t give any signs of sensitivity. Can we talk about any beautiful photography here? Well, you will definitely get a nice photo, but you won’t like it. You won’t like it because:
1) you will still remember how you were suffering at that moment
2) no emotions at all. Or all the muscles of the body and face are so tense that you will be very surprised that you can look SO bad :)
Why do I say that? Get dressed, damn it, properly! According to the season. And also bring a good mood with you. And you will have photos that will delight you.
